January 15, 2012

When Blair and I first walked in to Harli's room I noticed her ventilator had been turned down a couple times over night which is just amazing how hard Harli is fighting and telling everyone that she is a strong little girl.  Blair and I then noticed that she was laying on a different pad and the nurse explained that was their way of trying to get her to stay in bed.  Her new bed felt like it had play-do inside it which made it very hard for her to move around.

They continue to check her blood gas and her results continue to shock everyone with how well she is doing.

Blair got to hold Harli, which is called the Kangaroo, for the second time, which is just an amazing feat that will bring tears to your eyes to watch (trust me).  When Blair got to Kangaroo Harli we thought it would be for about an hour but it turned in to a 3 hour Kangaroo session which was just amazing.  The whole time Harli was on Blair's chest her levels remained perfect which is what they base the sessions on.

7:00 p.m. Blair and I walked into our module we over heard the nurses talking which babies they wanted since their shifts were getting ready to start and we over heard one nurse say that "she would really like to have Harli" which made Blair and I feel very proud.  We then started talking with our nurse who had Harli the first night she was at Riley and she said that she had checked up on her every night she had been there which makes you understand how much the nurses care about the babies.

8:00 p.m. When Blair and I left Harli's room her ventilator was set on 26 breathes per minute, which it had started on 40 breathes per minute just the day before.  Our nurse was getting ready to do a blood gas which I told her I would call back in to find out the results.

9:45 p.m. Adam called the nurses station to talk with Harli's nurse about the blood gas and she said her blood gas was perfect and they had turned her ventilator down to 20 breathes per minute which is the lowest setting before the CPAP machine if that is the route they decide to go.

Mom holding Harli which was very awesome to witness!

Our first family picture even though you can't see the star of the show.

This picture shows the machines she is currently on, with the hope of getting off the machine on the far left.

The nurses also wanted to keep mom happy so they put a pink bow on Harli.

Harli's diaper compared to her almost 3 month old cousin.

  1. Hi guys,

I am a postmaster friend of Doug. Ohio postmasters are as close as family so that means you are family too. As an honorary grandparent (I know that is a surprise to you) I am glad you started this blog to keep us informed. All we can do is pray but that seems to be working so we will keep it up. Bless you!
