February 9, 2012

Blair and I received a phone call this morning at two thirty telling us that they had put Harli back on the ventilator.  When we were there Harli kept dropping her breathing, but continued to keep her blood oxygen level and heart rate up.  After midnight hit though she was having trouble keeping those up since she was not breathing consistently, so they put her on the vent.

Today was a very rough day for Blair and I emotionally.  Harli just slept all day, she did not move at all.  Every now and then when we were doing Harli's care you could pick up her arms or legs and let go of them and they would just fall.  She just has absolutely no strength at this time.  Her ventilator was set at forty six breaths per minute, but when they checked her blood gas (blood gas is the amount of CO2 that is in your blood) at noon it was high so they had to turn it up to fifty four breaths per minute.  We were told that was the highest they are going to go and the next step would be putting her back on the jet ventilator.  That is something that we are praying does not happen, but we also know that it is in God's hands and we just need to trust in him.

They check her blood gas at four this afternoon and it was lower than at noon but still high.  They did not make any changes, but decided that they would do another gas at eight and see how she has responded.  They also took more x-rays of her stomach and they can not find anything wrong, but when they do her blood work they can not find anything wrong their either.  They pulled more blood tonight at eight for more labs and her blood gas had come down again.

Harli finally opened her eyes tonight at six for the first time all day. She still did not have any energy, but at least she was able to open her eyes and when I would put my finger in her hand she would hold onto it. Blair and I felt so helpless today because our little girl is just laying there with nothing we can do to make her feel better.  I know the doctors keep running test and are checking every possible thing, but still have had no luck. They have ruled out the serious intestine problems, but other than that they do not know.

In Harli's left hand is her IV, she is not getting milk at this time so is back on liquids.  Also her antibiotics are going through the IV as well.

All the tape on her face is holding in the vent tube.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."  Romans 12:2
