February 15, 2012

Last night was a good night for Harli.  She had a drop in heart rate at eight last night, and then she did not have any episodes the rest of the night.  I guess after they dressed her she did not move the rest of the night, the nurse said it was funny when they would change her diaper she would be her normally self, but when the clothes went back on she just laid completely still.

Today Harli only had two episodes, which she was able to recover both of those on her own.  They lowered her vapotherm machine down to two and a half liters of oxygen, and still on room air.  Harli seemed to handle this move very nicely, and stayed on that setting all day.  They raised her milk up from ten cc's to fourteen cc's then to seventeen cc's.  She seems to be handling the milk very nicely, but she still has not had a bowel movement.  The good news is that her stomach still feels very soft so hopefully she will have the big one in the morning.  Harli was able to wear clothes all day, and they even lowered the temperature in her bed and she was able to retain her temperature.

Tonight the module was closed for two hours while they were performing a procedure on another baby.  While it was closed we were able to go get something to eat.  We got back to Riley and still probably had to wait another hour before the module opened back up, but it was well worth the wait.  By the time we made it into our module they had taken the Valentine's clothes off Harli so I was not able to see it in person.  The reason they took it off was to change her IV for the clear liquid.  They have stopped giving her the liquid foods through the IV so hopefully they will be able to remove the IV tomorrow.

I was able to kangaroo Harli for two and a half hours tonight which was amazing.  She did great and all her vitals remained strong while I was holding her.  Harli's weight did not change today so she still weighs 3lbs 1.5ozs.

  1. I've been on this rollercoaster ride with our son, who is now a healthy, normal (meaning sometimes obnoxious!) teenager, and I pray that you will soon get to know more joys than fears: If someone would have told me at the time that all would be "normal" one day, I would have had a hard time believing that. So, I just want to encourage you to pray not only for today, but for Harli's future....TRY to imagine the wonderful things God has in store for her....AND for you all. In the meantime, you remain in my prayers. LuAnn has my number if you ever need to talk to someone who's "been there".
